The officials of MEGA (Metrolink Express for Gandhinagar and Ahmedabad) have started serious efforts to reduce the costs in constructing the metro pillars for the Metro Rail project. A team of engineers are carrying out feasibility to use monopile technology for the metro rail project. According to officials, team is looking to construct 2.4 meter monopile support for the metro pillar on a 48 km route where approximately 12,000 crores will be spent with large portion of amount to be used for created elevated track. The project requires constructing at least 1600 pillars over the route of phase I. If successfully implemented, this technique will save Rs. 2,500 crore rupees.

Instead of constructing pillars of 1.1 meter each clubbed together, engineers are experimenting monopile support of 2.4 meter on which mono pillar can be raised. The experiment is going on near Koba Circle where 31 meter monopile support has been created with the support of Hydraulic Jacks with sensors in its base to measure the pressure it can sustain by apply thousands of tones pressure from the top using the modern equipment. The engineers will study the result and if changes required will be incorporated in the construction of pillars.

The single monopile technique has been successfully used in Bangalore Metro. The technique is few years old and has been giving excellent results in Dubai Metro. A team from Dubai has also examined the monopile structure at Koba circle.

In a bid to boost trade with India, French Transport Minister Thierry Mariani seek interest to carry out feasibility study of Ahmedabad – Mumbai – Pune Bullet Train project to be launched under phase I by Indian Railway. The bullet train once operational would be able to travel at 250 kmh on the elevated track.

The French minister on a three day official visit to India showed interest in providing financial support to high end projects of Metro Rail and Speed Train in India. He insisted that Bangalore Metro (NAMMA) was funded 110 Million Euros by France which was almost 10 percent of total project cost. He also asserted that France is keen to join metro projects going to be launched in Ahmedabad, Chandigarh and Pune.

On a official visit, he met Dinesh Trivedi, the railway minister of India and ensured that French can provide safety and security assurance for the Speed Trains. “France has not suffered any accident since we started high speed trains” said by French Minister.

France has been leader in high speed train successfully running TGV services for long distance domestic route since 1970s. China, Japan and Korea are the only other countries running the high speed train also known as Bullet Train.

The French minister also ask Civil Aviation Minister Ajit Singh to reconsider the decision of not allowing wide body aircraft Airbus 380 to land and take off. The Airbus 380 aircraft is the world’s largest aircraft with having capacity of more than 525 passengers on its double-decker plane. The speculated reason for denied entry seems to allow domestic airlines to retain their strength on international route.

The man who likes to break record each year, Vaju Vala the finance minister for Gujarat state has come up with a budget giving core importance to social welfare with empowerment of women and youth for the next generation.

The minister who is known for his business friendly approach in budget failed to gather positive response from the industrialist who had always been delighted by Vaju Vala for the past 18 years. According to critics, giving tax relief, skill development, women empowerments are all well planned preparation for the upcoming state election to be held in December 2012.

Gujarat, the state which has seen tremendous growth since last 20 years has been credited to Vaju Vala who better knows how to fuel the money in development which will stabilize the infrastructure of the Gujarat in long run.

The concept of green environment was also focused in budget by reducing VAT on electricity bike from 15 percent to 5 percent making way for company like Electrotherm who sales electric two wheelers in Gujarat.

“We are happy that duty on electricity has been reduced, but we expected better” said Ankit Bothra, student of H.L. Institute of Management.

Though not many students were interested in budget, Vaju Vala has created stir among students who wants to pass ITI in Gujarat. The budget 2012-13, has put aside amount to be spent in creation of seats for ITI allowing more students to get technical skills in technical and engineering field.

The opposition leader of Gujarat Assembly told reporters that none would benefit with this sloppy budget as relief for farmers has been forgotten. In the last Lok Sabha election, congress gave Rs.50,000 crores relief to farmers.
